Take part in what's going on around you. It could be as easy as sending a message to your representative or as involved as organizing a political grass roots movement.
Either way, as Americans it is our right and our duty to stay informed and be involved in our democratic process.
We need your help furthering the cause of peace!
Please join us at the next meeting of DAWN, at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, 400 Duane Street Glen Ellyn. Meetings are usually at 7:30 pm on the first Tuesday of the month. Check the site for details.
Or check our schedule and join us at our next Peace event. Get involved!
What does DAWN do to stay involved and further the cause of peace?
Since our first meeting in October 2002, DAWN members have done several things to further the cause of peace. We have attended peace vigils and rallies, including one on Veteran's Day with the Vietnam Veterans Against War, peace vigils at the Glen Ellyn train station, and a December 9th Honk for Peace across from Yorktown Center in Lombard.
We were herded into a "first amendment zone" on January 6th when President Bush addressed the financial community at the Sheraton in Chicago, and crowded into a small office with 40 other people to give our message of peace to Congressional Representative Judy Biggert on January 21st.
Porchlights for Peace campaign carried us through to January 27th, the so-called deadline for weapons inspection. On February 15th, a worldwide day of peace demonstrations, our group not only attended a rally in Saint Charles, but DAWN staged our own Glen Ellyn Rally on Roosevelt Road. DAWN members also attended the huge rally at Daley Plaza on March 16th, joining forces with Chicagoans Against War in Iraq, and members of Labor and Faith-based groups. We sponsored a white ribbons for peace campaign. DAWN members were guests on the Oprah Winfrey show, and passed out white lapel ribbons to other anti-war guests in a special two-part segment about the war on Iraq.
Although based in Glen Ellyn, DAWN now has members from all over DuPage County. Each time we meet we have come up an action plan for some event or activity to further the cause of peace.
The efforts of DAWN continue. Please join us at the next meeting of DAWN, at the Glen Ellyn Public Library, 400 Duane Street Glen Ellyn. Check the website for dates and times.
